With the summit of Hawaii's biggest mountain peeking up in the distance, the Fairmont Orchid is located on Hawaii's spectacular Big Island. Known for it's stunning volcanic scenery and volcano that still billows and spits lava daily, this is a very special place to stay. The Fairmont Orchid is less than 2 hours drive from the summit of Mauna Kea, an incredible place for sun sets and stargazing, and only 3 hours drive from the fascinating volcanoes national park. With such interest and a wealth of exciting activities close by, the Fairmont makes for an ideal base for both a relaxing beach holiday and adventure too.
Set in a U shape to make the most of the ocean views, the 540 guest rooms and suites are designed in traditional style with spacious interiors and marble bathrooms. The Fairmont Gold Floor is well worth upgrading to with an exclusive lounge and views out to the beautiful West coast sun sets.
The focal point of the resort is the lagoon style pool, set back from the ocean front with ample terraces and lawns to relax in. Just in front is the rocky beach which is kept as safe haven for the native Hawaiian green sea turtles that regularly head there to bask in the sunshine during the day before returning to the ocean at night. To the left of the resort, the half moon shaped beach offers a protected lagoon for safe swimming and water sports away from the ocean waves. A fantastic place to take out a stand up paddle board or practice snorkelling skills.
For guests who like a more active stay, there are world class tennis courts and the famous 36 hole Hawaii golf course right next door. For a little more relaxation, head to the calming Spa without Walls, nestled into the tropical gardens amidst tranquil waterfalls or perhaps an ocean front massage, just set back from the beach.
