Located on the borders of Laos and Myanmar, the Anantara Golden Triangle is a stunning place to stay whilst exploring this fascinating historical, cultural and adventurous region. The resort beautifully fuses Thai architecture and décor with international standards and all rooms are furnished with oversized terrazzo bathtubs, Thai textiles, teak furnishings and artwork from the diverse local cultures.
Dining at the Anantara Golden Triangle is a culinary journey through centuries of Lanna culture and Old World European favourites, and both restaurants have dramatic views over the valley and its surrounding landscape. The Elephant Bar and Opium Terrace serves casual meals and fabulous cocktails. Alternatively, seek privacy and peace and choose the Anantara 'dining by design' programme, allowing you to eat in selected restuarants embracing the region's glorious serene landscape.
The Anantara's signature Chiang Rai spa comprises teak wood suites perched high above the Thai and Burmese jungle and uses ancient Thai remedies as well as pioneering treatments from across the globe. After your treatment relax in one of the private open air terrazzo tubs with views across the valley.
The Anantara Golden Triangle prides itself on its private elephant camp and this is a wonderful place to experience these great animals first-hand by walking with them through the bamboo jungle, helping bathe them or even spend a full day learning how to master the art of being a mahout.
There is an abundance of other activities on offer during your stay at the Anantara Golden Triangle, including visits to Chiang Rai and to the neighbouring countries by longtail boat, yoga, mountain biking, tree planting, trekking and a wonderful Thai cookery school where the chef personally takes you to visit the local market. Alternatively enjoy the magnificent free form infinity-edged swimming pool looking down over the tree canopy towards the Mekong River.
The Discovery Package allows you to enjoy all-inclusive benefits with one experience each day. You can choose from a spa treatment, elephant activity, Thai cooking class or cultural tour options. This package also means you can dine at one of the two restaurants, enjoy a select range of non-alcoholic beverages, in-room mini bar, internet and airport transfers.
When to visit
Thirty years ago, the steep mountain slopes of the Golden Triangle produced most of the world’s opium and were completely off limits to tourists. This stunning area on the borders with Laos and Burma is now safe to visit and the Hall of Opium gives a fascinating insight into Chiang Rai’s history.
