Immerse yourself in ancient Japan with a guided day in magical Nara. The capital of 8th century Japan, the city’s historic and cultural legacy is preserved in the countless UNESCO-listed temples, shrines, pagodas and palaces of Nara Park. With over a thousand tame deer roaming freely throughout the park, this scenic splendour feels like a step back in time.
Wander through the peaceful beauty of Isui Gardens, take tea at a traditional tea house, feed the deer and come face to face with the Great Buddha (Daibutsu) of Todaiji Temple. Visit Nara’s most sacred Shinto shrine, Kasuga Taisha and stroll through the well-preserved heritage houses and traditional architecture of Naramachi.
Keep the Zen flowing at your base for the following two nights, the Shisui Ryokan. Relax at the spa, over delicious Japanese cuisine or with a soak in your private onsen. The following day head back to Nara to explore independently or opt for a guided day trip to Japan’s cultural capital, Kyoto.

Japan has four seasons and is best visited in spring from March to May and autumn from September to November. December to January can be cold with snow and the summer is hot and humid. The end of March and early April is a particularly good time to visit as this is the cherry blossom season as is October for the autumn colours.
