Built between 1569 - 1585 and designed to be the joint capital of the Mughal Empire with Agra, this impressive red sandstone city was only occupied for fourteen years before its poor water supply forced the Mughals to abandon it. Now deserted and fantastically preserved, Fatehpur Sikri’s fusion of Islamic and Hindu architecture are a testament to Mughul power and grandeur.
