FAQs about luxury Japan travel

Our experts recommend visiting Japan during spring and fall, more specifically early March to late May, and early October to early December.
Not only is this when the weather is best, with summer bringing typhoon season and the winter bringing frigid temps, but the landscape is also at its finest. Book a year in advance, and you can spend your spring in Japan chasing the iconic cherry blossoms or visit in the fall to watch the landscape awash in vibrant hues of orange, red, and yellow.

Seasonal experiences are among the top things to see and do in Japan on a luxury vacation, with spring cherry blossoms and autumn leaves drawing visitors from around the world.
Beyond the seasons, you can’t miss an opportunity to view Mount Fuji from hills of Hakone, explore Kyoto’s historic shrines and temples, or immerse yourself in the energy, cuisine, and culture of mega cities like Tokyo and Osaka.

Japan’s most distinctive experiences offer a deeper glimpse into its culture. Share tea with a Maiko in Kyoto’s Gion district, learn the art of swordsmanship in an authentic dojo, or join a guided food tour to sample regional dishes and sake alongside local experts. Whatever your interests, we’ll help you discover the best experiences to tailor-make your Japan vacation.

When it comes to a honeymoon in Japan, it doesn’t get more romantic than an escape to the mountains and indulging in local cuisine according to our Asia expert Corey Wiess.
“There are so many amazing experiences for honeymooners in Japan. I’d recommend including at least a few nights at a ryokan somewhere tucked away in the Japanese mountains, going out for hikes or simply enjoying your private onsen all day. The new Guntu boat gives honeymooners a fantastic opportunity to cruise through the Seto Sea in ultimate luxury, letting you take in Japan from the water and enjoy the freshest seafood. Also, what’s more fun than a private cooking course to learn the art of soba making, or a private sake tasting with a Sake Master in Tokyo?”

Multiple cities in the US fly directly to Tokyo, including Los Angeles, Dallas, New York, Chicago, Boston, and Miami. There are two airports in Tokyo we fly to, Narita (NRT) and Haneda (HDA), however, we prefer Haneda airport as it’s about an hour closer to the city center than Narita.
You can also fly to Osaka Kansai (KIX) via international connecting flights.

Timing for cherry blossom season depends on where you’re visiting in Japan. On the main island of Honshu, you can see cherry blossoms between late March and early April, with Tokyo and Kyoto among the best places to see them. If you’re traveling later in spring, you may still catch the blooms in Hokkaido until early May.
