Fly to Maun

At a Glance
Your adventure begins as you fly into Maun and then catch a light aircraft in the Okavango Delta. Flying over swathes of lush vegetations, interspersed by glistening water channels, you’ll feel your excitement build as you descend and see elephants dotting the landscape. Your destination and home for the next three nights is Shinde Camp, an elegant safari camp located on a private concession and nestled on a palm island in the heart of the north of the Delta. You’ll spend your time here really capturing the essence of the Delta, as you drift down the water channels on boat or mokoro, allowing you a very different perspective of the wildlife. As well as exhilarating game drives, you’ll also venture out on walking safaris, led by expert guides. Evenings will be spent in the most spectacular sundowner spots, parked by the edge of the lagoon or a channel, observing giraffes silhouetted against the fuchsia sky with a gin and tonic in hand.

Awake to the dawn chorus of birds and the sun illuminating your luxury tent before heading out on a morning safari activity. You’ll then continue your journey in the Delta as you are flown to the Nxabega Concession to arrive at Kanana Camp, a hidden jewel on the Xudem River. Day to day your time will be spent delving into the wild on game drives where you can encounter phenomenal wildlife in this private concession, perhaps following a pack of wild dog or spotting a leopard draped along the high branch of a tree. As well as enjoying mokoro trips again, you’ll also have the thrilling experience of speeding through the waterways on motorboat, watching the abundant birdlife and stopping to let elephants cross in front of you. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, ask us about booking you a night under the stars in the sleep-out deck, and fall asleep to the sounds of the bush surrounding you.

Botswana’s winter is May to October when the weather is hot during the day (not stiflingly hot) and cold at night. Botswana's summer months (November to April) can be hot and humid and there is a chance of rain. Botswana has one rainy season which runs between mid-December and runs through to mid-March.
There are two very distinct seasons at the Victoria Falls, the wet/flood season and the dry season. These seasons do not reflect the quantity of rain, rather reflect the volume of flow of the Zambezi River. From around March through to July the river surges in size as the rainfall in Angola and Zambia from months before swells the current. The falls are at their most dramatic at this time of year with huge columns of spray. The nights are cold and the days warm at this time of year. From around September to January the water levels drop, the falls are more accessible and views are clearer as the flow can drop in volume by 90%. It is worth noting that the rains come from late October through to February, this combined with high heat, 40 celcius or more, in October and November, causes high levels of humidity.
