Amankila is the ultimate luxury retreat on the peaceful east coast of Bali where traditional Balinese life can still be experienced. Amankila's stunning suites are all located around a dramatic three-tier swimming pool offering uninterrupted ocean views.
Highlights
Secluded seaside resort
Three-tiered pool set into the cliff-edge
Traditional Balinese massage and beauty treatments
Exceptional views overlooking the Lombok Strait
Located near to the village of Manggis, Amankila is set on a private beachfront plateau, nestled between two headlands on the east coast of Bali. From its exclusive cliff edge setting, Amankila enjoys magnificent views of Bali’s dramatic black beaches and uninterrupted views out across the bustling Lombok Straight.
All of Amankila's freestanding suites, designed as 'beach houses with a twist', are tucked into the lush vegetation around the resort and are private and spacious with fabulous views out to the ocean. The alang alang thatched roofs, rattan and coconut furnishings and large windows all allow the outside in and one feels very much part of nature here.
The beach club at Amankila is located in a coconut grove down by the shoreline with its own swimming pool and a bar serving snacks and drinks. Large private bales are dotted along the black sand beach front, perfect for uninterrupted ocean views. Hobie cats, windsurfers, kayaks and boogie boards are all available for guests' use.
Meals at Amankila can be enjoyed in various spectacular locations around the resort with a highlight being the daily afternoon tea served by exquisitely dressed Balinese women in local dress - delicious fresh ginger tea, Balinese coffee and local baked delicacies are all a daily ritual here.
Traditional Balinese massage and beauty treatments can be enjoyed in the privacy of your suite, in the massage pavilion or at one of the beach club's massage tables tucked among the palms and frangipani and the healing power of the natural ingredients revive and stimulate, providing the ultimate in relaxation.
The area surrounding Amankila boasts an engaging blend of religion, royal culture and architectural splendour and this region is often referred to as 'Old Bali'. Trips to the nearby temples, villages and palaces are fascinating and for the more active trekking, mountain biking, horse-riding, rafting and diving are all close at hand.
When to visit
Named after the green hill upon which Amankila sits, the Indrakila Suite was my favourite - with its own private pool, outdoor bale and the most phenomenal ocean views!
