Rio Perdido
Rio Perdido, meaning 'lost river', is located in Guanacaste province, among rare dwarf-forest, just south of the imposing Miravalles Volcano. The unique centrepiece of the private reserve is the river gorge itself, which offers naturally hot springs.
Highlights
-
Rio Perdido has an admirable focus on the importance of being eco and respecting the environment. They have achieved the termination of logging in the area, whilst avoiding clearing further forest on construction of the property, as well as employing 90% of their team from the local town of Bagaces, amongst other ventures.
-
The property itself is constructed on less than 1% of the total area, so there is a huge expanse for you to explore and enjoy during your excursions and activities.
-
Enjoy some down time at the glorious outdoor pool or with a treatment in the spa.
-
Enjoy a wonderful tubing experience down the river on the property which combines the opportunity to float along slow, relaxing water with some more intense rapids.
Set on a 600-acre reserve, the hotel site is flanked by two deep canyons; one is a completely vertical gorge carrying cool waters (with a peculiar white tint), and the other is the thermal gorge of the Rio Perdido. The property is designed to be a sanctuary within the forest, allowing guests to experience the elements and get close to nature through the ever-present breezes, the crisp light and the sounds of the surrounding forest. Rio Perdido offers an abundance of recreational activities, including spa and wellness sessions, thermo-mineral pools, suspension bridges, white water tubing, 20+ miles of forest hiking trails, zip-lining and mountain-biking. It offers a more secluded way to enjoy the adventurous activties in Costa Rica for those who would prefer to avoid the busier hubs such as Arenal.
Rio Perdido offers a collection of comfortable and cosy lodges in the heart of the lush, tropical rainforest of central Costa Rica. Each of the beautifully designed eco-lodges offers ample accommodation and has a contemporary feel throughout, with striking steel beams and soft wood finishings. Set on stilts to protect the undergrowth, the individual bungalows sit in the canopy and enjoy beautiful views of the surrounding forest. In the dry season when the foliage thins, the spectacular valley opens and can be viewed from your private patio area.
Despite its secluded location, the property benefits from all of the modern amenities you would expect from a more metropolitan counterpart, including wifi, air conditioning and iPod/iPhone docks, making it perfect for those who prefer their creature comforts.
